Baby Squash: Prices continue to fall; now is a good time to promote. French Beans and Yellow Wax Beans are in light supply; prices are up. Starfruit from Taiwan has just arrived; quality is good and it should be available for the next 2 months… |
Stone
Fruit: Chilean Peaches and Nectarines quality is very good; white nectarines are available. Plums are Apricots are also very good. Bing and Rainier Cherries are very nice; prices have stabilized... |
Tomato
Report: The market is sending mixed signals; some growers are saying no change and others are expecting higher prices; quality is very good on two Layer, Loose, and Roma Tomatoes. Grape Tomatoes are good; prices are low. Cherry Tomato prices are unchanged. Cluster Tomatoes are still short; prices are up again.... |
Lettuce
Report: Iceberg and leaf markets prices are softer; Spinach continues to be short; prices are firm; Mescaline salad quality is recovering; supply is much better. Baby Arrugula and Baby Spinach are in better shape too.... |
Berry
News: Strawberries; Prices remain high due to cold weather and the occasional rain shower. Raspberries remain short and higher priced for the same reason; Blueberries are the best alternative; quality is good and prices are low. Colder weather in Mexico has Blackberry prices rebounding. Overall quality on all berries is very good… |
Fruit
Report: Apples and Pears: Supply and quality remain good. Avocados: Availability of all sizes of California fruit is very good; prices are off slightly but may spike for Superbowl Sunday. Citrus: No change on Texas Grapefruit and Valencia oranges; Lemon prices are up on choice fruit; Limes prices continue to be high; California Navel oranges are very good; prices are low. Grapes: Chilean Green and Red Grape supply is good; prices are lower; Black seedless is now available. Cantaloupes are short; pricing is higher; Honeydews are short and prices are strong; five count dews are your best buy. We have both Maui and South American pineapples; quality is good and prices are unchanged.... |
| Vegetable
Report: Artichokes: Frost damage is evident; supplies are short especially on loose chokes; prices remain high. Asparagus: Prices continue to slip. Blue Lake Beans: Mexican bean quality good; prices are unchanged; Chinese Long Beans are short; prices are high. Broccoli: Supply is better; prices are easing off. Cauliflower: Supply is better; prices have dropped. Celery: Product is not as short; prices are off. Cabbage: Green cabbage prices are lower. Carrots: Prices are unchanged. Cucumbers: Supplies are easier due to slow demand; prices are off; Hothouse cucumbers are unchanged; quality is fair. Eggplant: Globe prices are unchanged; Japanese, Italian, and Chinese eggplant are transitioning to Mexico; quality is mediocre and prices are up. Onions: Brown, red, and white onions prices are low; Green Onions are a little easier; prices have backed off. Peppers: Green, Gold, and Red Gold bells are lower but are active and will go up due to the freeze in Mexico. Green and Gold Zucchini: Prices have are lower but may go back up by the weekend due to the freeze. Straightneck Squash prices will go back up too... |
