Specialty News:
Prices on all baby squashes are down this week; French and Yellow Wax Beans are abundant; prices are low. Baby Kiwi’s, Starfruit, Fresh Morel or Black Trumpet Mushrooms, and Fiddlehead Fern are all available...


Stone Fruit: Apricots are almost finished, single layers only; Peaches, White Peaches, White Nectarines, and Nectarines are not very good; Red Plums are still good; other varieties are having problems....


Tomato Update: Roma’s: Mexican Roma quality is holding up; prices are unchanged. Two Layer and Loose Tomatoes: Florida and Mexico both have good supplies; prices are lower this week. Cherry Tomatoes: Quality is not too good, prices are up. Heirloom Tomatoes: Organic mixed fruit is excellent; prices are unchanged. Specialty Tomatoes: Teardrops are cheap; Grape tomatoes are short and prices are up. Clusters: Prices remain low; Cumpari, cherry cluster, orange and yellow clusters are also available...


Lettuce Market:
Iceberg quality is improving during the transition from the desert to Huron, prices are off; Boston, Romaine, Greenleaf, and Redleaf are all in good supply, prices are unchanged...


Berry News: Strawberries: Quality is good, prices continue to fall. Long Stem strawberries sizing is getting bigger, prices are down. Blackberries: Supplies are light, prices are up. Blueberries and Raspberries are plentiful; prices are unchanged.....

Fresh Fruits: Avocados: Prices are up again; California fruit will be our primary source. Citrus: Oranges, Limes, and Lemons are steady; Tangerines are almost finished; Clementine’s, Mercot, and Honey are still available. Grapes: Good quality and supplies of Chilean Flames and Thompson’s; prices are unchanged. Kiwi’s: Supplies are better; prices are down. Melons: Cantaloupes have leveled off; Honeydews are up slightly; Watermelon quality is improving; prices are off. Mexico has started with Mangoes, prices are up. Papayas: Hawaiian papaya prices are unchanged; Pineapples: Supplies are short and prices are up....

Fresh Vegetables: Artichokes: Chokes are coming out of Castroville; supplies are improved and prices are off. Asparagus: California quality is excellent and prices are stable. Beans: Blue Lake quality is very good, prices are down. Broccoli & Cauliflower: Product is very short; prices are up again. Celery: Prices are down. Cabbage: Good supplies; red is off slightly in price. Carrots: No change yet; cool weather is causing them to size smaller than normal. Cucumbers: Supplies are better, no change in prices. Onions: Prices remain high on all varieties. Peppers: Green bells are very short; prices are higher than Red or Gold. Potatoes: White rose potatoes are hit and miss; no steady supply is available until the end of the month; Russet growers are deep into their storage; supply is a little light this year and prices are heading up. Zucchini is unchanged this week; Straightneck out of Mexico is still good, prices are unchanged; Gold Zucchini has started out of Coachella, quality is excellent; Butternut is short; prices are high and size is small...
