LETTUCE MARKET:
  Spinach, Boston, Romaine, Greenleaf, Redleaf and Iceberg: Damage caused by hot weather is having adverse affects on quality; prices are inching up…



BERRY NEWS:
Strawberries
and Long Stem Strawberries: Hot weather has berries melting in the hot sun; prices are up. Raspberries: So far the weather hasn’t had too much adverse affect on supplies; prices are unchanged. Blueberries: Supplies are good: prices are the same. Blackberries: Supply is much better; prices are low…


TOMATO UPDATE: Two Layer Repack Tomatoes and Loose Tomatoes: Prices are flat, no significant changes. Cluster Tomatoes: Market remains surplus; prices are low. Cherry Tomatoes: Supplies are good; prices are unchanged. Grape Tomatoes: Prices remain low; quality is excellent. Roma Tomatoes: Prices are unchanged. Teardrops: Supplies are long and prices low on red ones; yellows are still short; prices are firm. Heirloom Tomatoes: Supplies are much better; prices are remaining high but we now have a good mix of different varieties…

FRESH FRUITS: California Haas Avocados: Prices are steady; quality is good. Cantaloupes: Prices are up slightly as new crop Westside fruit arrives; quality is very excellent. Honeydews: Westside fruit also, prices are good. Mixed Melons: Good supplies of Orange Dews, Canary, Casaba, Crenshaw, Persian, Santa Claus, and Sharlyn; good time to promote; prices are low. Green and Red Grapes: California fruit; prices are coming down. Oranges: A 30% decrease in supplies this year is causing higher prices. Grapefruit: No change in price. Lemons: Prices are up again; supplies are very light. Limes: No change in price. Hawaiian Papayas: Supplies are better; prices are still high. Apricots, Nectarines and Peaches: California tree fruit is in full swing; prices are leveling off; quality is excellent. Plums: Red plums and black plums are plentiful and size is improving; many varieties of pluots and dinosaur plums are available this week; elephant heart should start in mid July. Cherries: Bing cherries from Washington are very good; prices are down; Raniers are improving in quality. There are good supplies of Apples, Kiwi’s, Gold Kiwi’s, Mangoes, and Pears . . .


FRESH VEGETABLES: Artichokes: Supplies are short; prices are up on large sizes. Asparagus: California quality is excellent; prices have headed back up. Bok Choy and Napa Cabbage: Napa and Bok Choy supplies are improving; prices are down. Blue Lake Beans: Hot weather is causing surplus product; prices are low. Broccoli: The market seems to have stabilized; quality is very good. Cauliflower: Prices are low. Cabbage: Supply is good; prices are up slightly on green. Celery: Celery is still a problem; prices continue to go up. Cucumbers: No change here either; prices are unchanged. Eggplant: No change, prices are low. Red Onions: Prices are up. Yellow Onions: Supplies are light; prices are up. White Onions: Prices are the same. Potatoes: The market is rising daily; commitments by processors of French fries and dehydrated potatoes are short of raw cull product and are buying up anything they can to fill orders; many sheds are finished until new crop is dug up in August; prices are higher and quality is decreased. Kale, Curly Parsley and Italian Parsley: No change; prices are low. Green, Red, and Gold Bell Peppers: No change in green but red and gold continue to be in short supply; prices are strong. Green Zucchini: Warm weather is keeping the supply chain full; prices are low. Gold Zucchini: Quality is good; prices are low. Yellow Straightneck: Supply is light; prices remain high. Baby Squashes: Good time to promote; supplies are excellent. French Beans: Supplies are heavy; prices are low. There are good supplies of Chard, Snow and English Peas...

As with all fresh fruits and vegetables, the market could change daily . . .
