Item of the Week: Ciao Bella Products (See HOT SHEET)

Tomato Report: Over all market has good supply and quality. Most products are out of California, with some few exceptions. Cherry, Grape, Teardrop and Roma are coming from Mexico. Roma has good quality; pricing are trending upward however, we are holding our prices firm. Teardrop, Grape and Cherry are in short supply and have higher pricing. Large 4x4 and 4x5's are in good supply.

Lettuce Report: Expect to see tight supplies throughout the entire week. It is possible to see some Fringe Burn on Romaine. While most is being trimmed off, yields are down and weights will end up on the lighter side. Iceberg could see some Mildew issues and head sizes will be mostly medium 24's. Red, Green and Butter Leaf have good quality; however they will still be on the smaller side. Expect higher pricing on all lettuce varieties.

Berry News: Quality is improving across the board. We are still seeing some issues with Blueberries. However, a new crop will be coming out of Argentina. Currently our Blueberries are from Canada. Expect better quality but a higher price when product arrives. Clamshell Strawberries had some quality issues but they have greatly improved. Large Stem Strawberries have good quality and supply. Best bet for your Berry choice of the week, Raspberries. They have good quality and availability. Their pricing seems to be holding firm and they have a very sweet flavor.

Fruit Report: Citrus: 115, 95 and 75 sizes of Lemons are in short supply. Quality is fair. Limes 200's are down in price. Quality has improved 100%. They have a beautiful green color and good juice. (See This Week's Hot Sheet) All varieties of Oranges are available with good overall supply. Juicing Oranges will take a geographical shift from California to Texas. Size might be slightly smaller but juice will be sweet. Grapefruit has good availability, but has high pricing. In a few weeks expect pricing to decrease and the sugar level increase once Texas crop has higher yields. Avocado prices are on the rise. Three weeks of California inventory left until we transition to the Chilean/Mexican variety. Pineapples have good availability and a high sugar count. (See Hot Sheet) Plums and Pluots have good availability .The end of the Stone fruit season is quickly approaching. Peaches are beginning to soften and show some signs of blackening on the inside. Apricots are back with a crop from Eastern Washington. Pomegranates are now seeing excellent availability and quality. Melons, such as Cantaloupe, Watermelon and Honeydew have good availability. Honeydew has good pricing and high sugar count. Apples: A new crop of Gala, Golden Delicious, Red Delicious and Granny Smith apples are now available from Eastern Washington.

Vegetable Report: Asparagus: Quality is good and prices are holding steady. All sizes have good availability. We will have primarily Peruvian product available. (See This Week's Hot Sheet)Bell Peppers: Prices have increased sharply on the Green, Red and Yellow varieties. Supply is tight; quality is fair. Crop will be in transition until it is in full swing out of Nogales. Squash: Getting the last of the supplies from Santa Maria. Zucchini prices are on the rise. The crop will transition to Nogales Mexico, and then quality should improve. We are still seeing good availability and pricing Yellow Gold Bar squash. (See This Week's Hot Sheet) Broccoli should have good quality but we could see some tighter supplies until the end of the week. Cauliflower: Expect excellent quality but possible price increases. Potatoes: Idaho and Russet Baker are high priced due to higher demands and lower availability (especially the larger variety). Supplies are limited to late season storage potatoes; expect prices to ease. The Washington crop is in full swing. The Norkotah brand Idaho Russet Potato is also in production; prices are firm and limited to smaller 80, 90, and 100's. Celery is on the move. Because of recent hot weather and higher demand from the East Coast, expect prices to increase. Yellow corn is extremely expensive. White is a much better choice. It has a better price and is very sweet.

As with all fresh fruits and vegetables, the market could change daily . . .
