In Season Right Now: Lady Apples, Passion Fruit, Comice Pears, Black Radish, Forelli Pears, Celery Roo,t D’Angou Pears, Rambutan, Black Garlic, Pomegranate, Romano Beans, Persimmons, Pummelos, Rambutan.

New Item: Fig Cake -- dense fig fruit mixed with Spanish marcona almonds pressed and dried into semi sweet sliceable bread. Great for cheese plate.

Tomato Report: Recent cold weather in Baja California and Mexico has caused a gap in production resulting in increase prices for round slicing tomatoes. Prices on tomatoes will continue to rise as we approach the Thanksgiving holiday.

Lettuce Report: Unseasonable weather conditions that occurred during September and October resulted substantial damage to the late season harvest for various items in Central California districts, including romaine, red leaf, butter, green leaf and iceberg. Hot weather conditions, followed by heavy rain, again followed by heat and then high winds have significantly affected product condition and shelf life. Critical shortage of lettuce items is expected to continue through late November.

Berry News: Strawberries continue to be in extreme tight supply and at high prices throughout November. Production is also increasing for Mexican blackberries and raspberries; in effect prices have started to come down. Blueberries from Argentina are now available, and Chile is also starting their production. We hope to see prices trend downward as supplies begin to improve throughout the next few weeks.

Fruit Report: We continue to have both Chilean and Mexican avocados available; however Mexican avocados are the only ones that we recommend. The supply situation continues to improve for new crop Navel oranges. New crop pummelos are now available in California, along with Fairchild tangerines and Satsuma mandarins. The citrus harvest is in full swing in Florida, including Navels, juice oranges, grapefruit and tangerines; however weather conditions have caused a reduction in yield…fruit has not achieved full color. Honeydews and cantaloupe from Mexico are in good supply in Nogales, prices are at a good buy. New crop California kiwi is now available with good supplies, along with, pomegranates, Asian pears, and Fuyu & Hachiya persimmons.

Vegetable Report: As we approach the Thanksgiving holiday shipping period, current high prices will remain firm for bunched broccoli, broccoli crowns and celery. Carrots will be in tight supply until late January, when harvesting will begin in Georgia. Blue lake beans are in extreme short supply resulting in much higher prices than usual for this time of year. Cucumbers are in good supply in Nogales and Florida, prices are trending lower, as well as for zucchini and yellow squash. Prices remain firm for green bell peppers in Coachella, Nogales and Florida. Red bell peppers are in good supply in Southern California coastal districts and Coachella.

As with all fresh fruits and vegetables, the market could change daily . . .
