 Tomato
Report: The pricing on Roma tomatoes continues to trend higher. Despite oversupply situation Round slicing tomatoes pricing are still higher than usual we do expect some relief in the near future. Grape and Cherry tomatoes are in good supply and still at a great price. |

 Lettuce
Report: Iceberg, romaine, and leaf lettuces are all in good supply, and at a great buy. Quality, head size, and carton weights are all very good.

 Berry
News: Strawberry prices remain firm; quality is steadily improving. Blackberries will be in very short supply until the harvest resumes in Central Mexico and Baja California in late October. Raspberries continue to be in fair supply and prices are firm. Blueberry availability will improve with the beginning of the harvest in Argentina which is expected to start in mid October. |
 Fruit
Report: We continue to have both Chilean and Mexican avocados available. Chilean is still a lot less expensive than Mexican, however, Mexican have much higher oil content and taste better. Availability has improved for small sized Valencia oranges. The local summer ruby grapefruit season is finishing in Southern California. Pineapples from Central America will be in tight supply through early November. Availability has improved for large sized cantaloupes. Honeydew melon supplies have tightened this week but prices still remain at a good buy. Watermelon prices have started to trend higher this week. New crop of Gala and Red Delicious apples are available out of Washington; quality is good, and prices are at a good buy for the aa sizes 88 & larger. Bartlett pears are available out of California and Washington. Late season peaches will be available through early October. |
 Vegetable
Report: Cucumber prices have risen to extreme levels in California…late summer, early fall production has dropped significantly. Beans, Zucchini, Yellow Squash, and Eggplant are in good supply (Check out this week’s Hot Sheet special on French Beans). We have good supplies of yellow, red, and white onions. Supplies are tighter than normal for the large sized super colossal onions. Spring Mix is in good supply and quality is excellent. Availability has tightened for snow peas. Green and red bell peppers are at good buy right now, and yellow bell peppers are trending downward in price. Green and red cabbages are in good supply as well as green onions, leeks, parsley, kale, and bunched spinach. Carrots continue to be in good supply. |
