Tomato Report: The pricing on Roma tomatoes continues to trend higher. Round tomatoes are now starting to trend higher as well due to the recent warm weather we had. Grape and cherry tomatoes continue to be in good supply and at a great buy.

Lettuce Report: Romaine and green leaf are in good supply and prices are at a good buy. Iceberg market has been affected by the warm weather resulting in some internal burn.

Berry News: Strawberries supplies will tighten this week due to the rain that occurred in Watsonville-Salinas area, which will leave product showing bruising. Blackberries are having production issues as well due to weather conditions. Raspberries are in fair supply and prices are firm. Blueberry supplies will be very limited for the next 4-5 weeks as we transition to Argentina but the transition is being delayed due to cold weather temperatures.

Fruit Report: We have both Chilean and Mexican avocados available. Chilean are a lot less expensive than Mexican, however, Mexican have a much higher oil content and taste better. Late season Valencia oranges continue to be in extreme tight supply, particularly for the 113’s and 138’s. Chilean Navels will be available through early October. Limes continue to be in tight supply due to the floods in Mexico. Large sized 9 ct cantaloupes are expected to be in tight supply this week; however it is expected to improve by next week. New crop fall honeydews will be available next week in Central Arizona with the harvest in fully production by early October. New crop Gala and Red Delicious apples are available in Washington. Grapes are the best buy for price and quality Bartlett pears are available in California and Washington. Prices are trending higher for late season peaches. Red plums are in very tight supply, while black plums are in fair supply.

Vegetable Report: Green bell peppers are in good supply and are at a great buy. Jumbo yellow onions and red onions are in good supply, but colossal and super colossal are still having supply issues. Blue lake beans and eggplant are in fair supply. Cauliflower is in good supply and at a good buy. Cilantro is in extreme tight supply due to a gap in production, which was caused by hot weather that occurred in early August. Availability has improved on green onions. The snow pea market is trending higher, along with Italian parsley. Asparagus is currently coming out of Peru, but we will be transitioning into Mexico by early October (check out this weeks Hot Sheet Special). Carrots and Celery are both in good supply and prices are firm.

As with all fresh fruits and vegetables, the market could change daily . . .
