Report: The market on Roma tomatoes continues to trend higher for prices due to fewer acres planted in California. Round tomatoes continue to be in better supply. Grape and cherry tomatoes continue to be in good supply and at a great buy. |
|
Lettuce
Report: Availability has improved for romaine and leaf lettuces. Prices for Iceberg and Romaine are beginning to trend downward.
|
Berry
News: Strawberries are still having quality issues due to the recent warm weather. The blueberry season is winding down in the Pacific Northwest. Raspberries continue to feel the effects of recent hot weather, resulting in prices rising. Blackberries will continue to be in tight supplies until November, when the harvest will begin in Mexico. |
Fruit
Report: We currently have Chilean and Mexican avocados in stock. We will be testing them both all week long for taste, ripeness and oil content, and will give recommendations next week to everyone. Valencia oranges continue to be in tight supplies for the small size (113’s & 138’s) but availability is good on the larger sizes. Prices are steady for late season California lemons. Cantaloupes are in good supply for the medium sizes (12’s and 15’s) Check out this week’s Hot Sheet special!! Honeydew market is starting to rise in price. Prices for watermelons are trending downward and are at a good buy. New crop Gala and Golden Delicious apples are available, as well as, Bartlett pears. Red plums are starting to finish for the season. Black plums are available. California peaches are available through early October. Red and Green Grapes are at a great buy, while Black seedless and Red Globe grapes are in tight supply. |
Vegetable
Report: Prices continue to rise for cucumbers but California will soon begin production. Green bell peppers have good quality and good supply, while red bell peppers are not. We do expect to have improved supply of red bell peppers next week. Eggplant is in good supply. Jumbo yellow onions and red onions also are in good supply. Cauliflower is in good supply and quality is great. Regular bunched broccoli is in good supply, while broccoli crowns are priced a little higher. Celery and Carrots are still great buys. Due to the warm weather we have had, Cilantro continues with tight supply and smaller sizing. The market has moved higher on green onions, bunched spinach, bok choy, napa, and snow peas. |
As with
all fresh fruits and vegetables, the market could change
