In Season Right Now: Quince, Blood Oranges, Cara Cara Oranges, Pomegranates.

Locally Grown: Organic Brussels Sprouts, Item #4763. Grown out of San Juan Batista, CA.

Tomato Report: The market has leveled off.  Bigger sizes are still showing signs of poor color.  Mexican product is available but supplies are tight.  Also, expect Roma’s to get better; the market is getting better, and the price is starting to come off as well.

Lettuce Report: Iceberg market is still high due to tight supply, because of the rain we had.  Romaine market is very steady with good quality and great supply. Redleaf and Greenleaf market is stable with good quality.

Berry News: Strawberries are still struggling with white shoulders, and small inconsistent size.  The Blueberries and blackberries are showing great quality and prices are coming down as well. Also, be sure to look at this week Hot Sheet, great deals on blueberries and blackberries. Raspberries are in short supply with holiday demand.

Fruit Report: Cantaloupe market is starting to take off; offshore supplies are starting to arrive with small sizes plentiful but large sizes are in short supply.  Honeydew market is stable, and quality is good.  Lemon prices are starting to rise, especially in the 165 count.  Oranges are starting to tighten up on 88 count and smaller fruit.  Bosc and D’Anjou Pears are a great buy now with good quality.  Watermelon market is having poor quality and small inconsistent sizes.  Avocado prices are inching down.  Kumquats are still hit and miss due to the recent rains and cold season.  Red and Black grapes are showing signs of poor quality due to cold and wind conditions.

Vegetable Report: Green Bell Peppers are still unchanged.  Broccoli is coming in light weight and less supply is coming in due to the cold weather.  Cauliflower market is still steady, and demand has slowed. Celery market is very active; due to cold weather in Oxnard.  Cucumbers are expected to have high prices for the next couple of weeks. Green Onions are coming out of Mexico with good supply.  Onion market is steady no change.  Asparagus is having some issues on quality and is running small.  Spring Mix market is steady, and quality is very good. Squash market is level.  Idaho Potato market is stable; however, freezing temperatures are going to tighten the inventories.  Yellow tomatoes are becoming tight in supply.  Artichokes are coming in with “frost kiss” from the cold.

As with all fresh fruits and vegetables, the market could change daily . . .
