Report: The market is in the doldrums; quality is very good and prices remain low; All the specialty tomatoes are in full swing; strawberry tomatoes, mix heirloom, yellow grape, sweet 100 cherry tomatoes, and clusters are all in good supply and the price is right…… |
Lettuce
Report: We are expecting to see the effects of the heat wave; growers are reporting tip burn and interior damage on all leaf; prices remain strong and quality only mediocre.... |
Berry
News: Strawberries; Growers are beginning to recover from the heat damage and berries are plentiful; Blackberries and Raspberries are still struggling with quality issues. The better Blueberries are Driscoll; we will be shipping this label predominantly… |
Fruit
Report: Avocados: Availability of California fruit is good; prices are steady. Bananas: Prices are off slightly. Citrus: California Star Ruby Grapefruits are still good. California Valencia Orange quality is very good and prices are lower. Limes are short and prices are rebounding due to heavy rains in the Veracruz growing region. Grapes: Quality and sizing are very good; prices are low. New Zealand Green and Gold Kiwis are very good. Cantaloupes; Prices are much lower and quality is improving as we switch over to the Westside district. Honeydew quality very good and pricing is low. Mixed Melon varieties include Orange Dews, Crenshaw, Tuscan, and Galia’s; Watermelon prices are lower as all of the July 4th ads are over. Maui and Costa Rican Pineapples are very good; volume is off and prices are perking up.... |

Report: Artichokes: Supplies are loosening up and prices are low. Asparagus: Prices are moving up as Washington finishes and distributors rely on Mexican crop. Blue Lake Beans: Fresno quality is good; prices unchanged. Broccoli and Cauliflower are weaker this week. Brussels Sprout: Supply remains light; prices are up again. Celery: Prices are off moderately. Cabbage: Pricing is unchanged. Carrots: Prices are steady. Cilantro and Hot Chilies: In spite of any FDA warning you can be assured that there is no problem with our product; all of these items are coming from approved California growers. Cucumbers: Prices remain low; Hothouse cucumbers are unchanged. Corn: Corn is good; prices are low. Eggplant: Fresno eggplants are very nice; prices are stable. Supplies of Japanese and Chinese Eggplants are very nice too. Mushrooms: The Oregon Wild Mushroom season is in full swing; Morel, Chanterelle, and Porcini are all available; fresh Lobster Mushrooms should arrive in 2 – 3 weeks. Onions: Brown, red, and white onions prices are unchanged. Peppers: Green bells remain low but Red and Gold are very short and prices are very high. Zucchini growers have product everywhere; quality is excellent and prices are low. Gold Zucchini is in oversupply; quality is good and prices are very attractive... |
