Specialty: Baby Veggies: Prices are falling on baby squashes after the Mothers Day pull; it is the same story on French and Yellow Wax Beans; prices are off; fresh Morel Mushrooms are here; chanterelle’s are a few weeks away.…


Stone Fruit: California Peaches and Nectarines are looking very nice; Apricots are getting bigger and sweeter; Cherry quality is very nice on the early varieties; Chilean Plums are still available, quality is good…

Tomato Report: Prices are lower on smaller sizes; 4x4 and 4x5 size are commanding premium prices; Roma tomatoes are lower this week; Cherry tomatoes are short and pricy...

Lettuce Report: Iceberg and Leaf are abundant and cheap; quality out of Salinas is very good....

Berry News: Strawberries; Prices remain firm; cooler weather is keeping inventories light and prices stable. Blackberries, Blueberries, and Raspberries are in much better shape; quality is good and prices are coming off…

Fruit Report: Apples and Pears: Supply and quality remain good. Avocados: Availability of California fruit is good; prices are up slightly. Bananas: Central American growers continue to struggle; prices are up again. Citrus: Coachella Valley Grapefruit has started; Mexican Valencia oranges are getting sweeter daily; California Valencia’s are here but still too immature; Limes are plentiful; prices are off. California Navels are still okay; good Valencia’s are right around the corner. Blood Oranges are finishing up; quality is diminishing. Grapes: We are still struggling with Chilean Fruit; new crop Mexican fruit should start next week. We are getting mixed reports on Cantaloupes; one school says up, the other says down; time will tell; quality so far is still good; Honeydews are much cheaper and quality is good; Watermelon prices are low. Still no Maui pineapples but we are getting good quality Costa Rican fruit to fill the gap....

Vegetable Report: Artichokes: Quality is excellent and prices are low. Asparagus: Prices are falling as California and Washington step up production. Blue Lake Beans: Mexico is finishing and prices are low; new crop Coachella quality is excellent but prices are higher. Broccoli and Cauliflower: Supply is very light; prices are heading back up. Brussels Sprout: Only cups are available; prices are high. Celery: Growers are fighting seeder problems; prices are up. Cabbage: No change in prices. Carrots: Prices are unchanged. Cucumbers: Quality is good and prices are up; no change in Hothouse cucumber pricing. Eggplant: Mexico is done and new crop Coachella is here; prices are up; Coachella Japanese and Chinese are very nice too. Onions: Brown, red, and white onions prices are unchanged. Peppers: Not much change on Green and Gold Bells but Red Bells remains in short supply and pricing is strong. Straightneck is plentiful and prices are unchanged; Gold Zucchini is now available from Coachella; Extra Fancy size Green and Yellow Summer Squash is now available. Green Zucchini is still plentiful; quality is excellent and prices remain low...

As with all fresh fruits and vegetables, the market could change daily . . .
