Fruit: Desert Peaches are looking very nice; Apricots and Nectarines are still a week or so away; Chilean Plums are still available, red or black only; quality is good… |
Tomato
Report: Prices are unchanged on most tomatoes but getting good color is tough; Roma tomatoes are lower this week; Cherry, Cluster, and Specialty tomatoes are unchanged.... |
Lettuce
Report: Huron Iceberg and Leaf are still with us but most growers are switching to Salinas; quality is very good.... |
Berry
News: Strawberries; Quality is excellent but prices are moving up due to Mothers day East Coast demand. Raspberries are steady. Florida Blueberries are very good; prices are unchanged. Chilean and Mexican Blackberries are unchanged… |
Fruit
Report: Apples and Pears: Supply and quality remain good. Avocados: Availability of California fruit is good; prices are unchanged. Bananas: Local inventory is better but distributors are fighting color; no break in pricing. Citrus: Coachella Valley Grapefruit has started; Texas Valencia oranges are finished; next stop is Mexican Valencia’s; Larger Lemons are off slightly; Small Limes are plentiful; bigger fruit is demanding a premium; California Navel quality is diminishing but still is okay; Blood Oranges are finishing up; quality is diminishing. Grapes: All grapes are short but Black and Green are better shape; Red Grapes are tight and pricing is up and will continue to rise. Cantaloupes remain short and prices are high; Honeydews are low and quality is fair; Watermelons are improving and prices are off. Maui is the best but demand exceeds demand; Costa Rican pineapples are filling in and prices are up on both.... |

Report: Artichokes: Quality was improving and prices are lower. Asparagus: Prices are up due to cool overnight temperatures in both Washington and California. Blue Lake Beans: Availability is short and prices are high. Broccoli and Cauliflower: Supply is very light; prices are very strong. Brussels Sprout: Growers are still light; prices are high. Celery: Prices are up. Cabbage: No change in green but red has doubled in price. Carrots: Prices are unchanged. Cucumbers: Quality is good and prices are off; no change in Hothouse cucumber pricing. Eggplant: Supplies are good and prices are lower on Globes; Supplies of Japanese and the like are improving as the Coachella deal starts up. Onions: Brown, red, and white onions prices are unchanged. Peppers: Green and Red bells are up in price; Gold Bell prices are unchanged; quality is good. Straightneck is plentiful and prices are average for this time of the year; Gold Zucchini is now available from Coachella; Extra Fancy size Green and Yellow Summer Squash is now available; Yellow Crook Neck Squash is back again too. Green Zucchini is beginning to tighten up; quality is good but prices are active... |
