Tomato
Report: Prices are up on large tomatoes and Roma tomatoes; prices remain strong on everything from round tomatoes to cherries and specialty tomatoes; cold weather in Mexico continues to be the driving factor in pricing and supply.... |
Lettuce
Report: No change in leaf prices or Iceberg this week. Spinach quality is good; prices are low. Baby Arrugula quality is a problem this week; prices are unchanged.... |
Berry
News: Strawberries; Growers are still prorating product and quality is still being affected by rain. Raspberries are more plentiful but prices remain strong. Chilean Blackberries remain in good supply; prices are unchanged. California Blueberries have started; quality is very good and prices are fair… |
Fruit
Report: Apples and Pears: Supply and quality remain good. Avocados: Availability of California fruit is good; prices are unchanged. Bananas: Fruit remains in short supply and prices continue to climb. Citrus: Texas Grapefruit and Valencia oranges are unchanged; Lemon prices are unchanged; Limes are short and will continue to get worse due to the labor shortage anticipated due to the Easter holidays; California Navel orange supplies remain good and prices are unchanged. Blood Oranges are in good supply; prices are low. Grapes: Black, Green, and Red Grape quality is very good; prices remain low. Cantaloupes prices are down and quality is very good; Honeydews are down; quality is good; Watermelons are still short; quality is mediocre and prices are up. Costa Rican and Maui pineapples are short this week; prices are very strong.... |
| Vegetable
Report: Artichokes: Quality is improving and prices are steady. Asparagus: Prices are on the upswing as shippers begin the heavy Easter holiday pull. Blue Lake Beans: Quality remains good; prices are up. Broccoli: Bunched remains cheap but crowns are short and prices are on the upswing; export demand coupled with quality issues in the desert is providing the one two punch on this commodity. Cauliflower: Prices are s little higher this week. Brussels Sprout: Growers are in gap; supplies are tight and prices are firm. Celery: Availability is good; prices are low. Cabbage: Prices are unchanged. Carrots: Prices are unchanged. Cucumbers: Supplies are good and prices are up slightly; Hothouse cucumbers are a steal! Eggplant: Cold weather is still keeping prices high on everything from Globes to Japanese. Onions: Brown, red, and white onions prices are unchanged. Peppers: Green bells are cheap on the small stuff but anything with any size is demanding premium dollars. Gold Bell prices are unchanged but Red Bell Peppers prices remain strong; cold weather is causing a lot of chocolate colored fruit. Straightneck and Gold Zucchini are stronger this week; Green Zucchini is up slightly... |
